Melbourne Guitar lessons, VIC, Thomas Lorenzo.

I assume my students can play chords , play melodies, do some soloing , wish to learn more and will dedicate weekly practice to achieve the goals we select. The style will be jazz or improvised music, flamenco, latin , blues , reggae, and other styles of contemporary music.

I want my students to be creative in their playing, to able to focus on a goal of expression and achieve it in the musical context that has been chosen with the main objective of feeling good about what they do.

I want them to develop self awareness of skills and needs analysing how other famed guitarists play , what they play, how and why they play in that manner to develop their unique distinct voice.

I want my students to be able to create grooves both rhythmically and melodically.

I want my students to experience different ways of been lyrical on the guitar, different ways of expressing melodies both through timbre as also with melodic harmonic enharmonic or rhythmic variations.

I want my students to strive for emotion and to seek it constantly in all their playing .

I want my students to understand how a band band grooves, how to develop the groove, achieve melodic and rhythmic climaxes, understand how to play in the background or forefront without bringing up the volume of the instrument.

And much much more.

After 30 years in Europe and in the USA I have come back home to my Australia where I am currently dedicating part of my time to music teaching , sharing with you my knowledge and experience.

Proof of Teaching experience

In the last 20 years I have had over 2000 students, ages 9 to 70 at: LIPA ( UK) , (Paul Mc Cartney’s School of Music), L’Aula, (Berklee`s College of Music partner in Spain ) and at the Conservatorium of the “Liceu” , The Conservatorium of “Badalona “, both in Barcelona, Spain.

Past students have achieved highly successful careers as: Macaco , a latin grammy award winner Kate Pinell, West end ,London, Sarah Randle, performing for the Queen of England, Kim Manning as a member of Parliament funk ,( George Clinton), amongst others.

My textbooks are used in Conservatories and schools of Music in spanish speaking countries around the world.

My music methodology received high acclaim by the European Educational Music Commission in 1997.

What do I teach ?
Electric acoustic and spanish guitar

How to make music, how to feel good about playing the guitar in a quick , easy manner and of course my main final objective would be to get you playing the guitar for the rest of your life

Levels
Intermediate , advanced and I also select beginners who do like to achieve specific goals. An enthusiastic beginner who follows my guidance is a very satisfying personal experience.

Price
Between 60 and 85 per hour.
I
would recommend group classes for beginners as private tuition is not the only format for learning how to play the guitar in an effective manner.

Conditions will apply for establishing an efficient compromise on both parties

I have spent the last 30 years helping guitarists develop their inner voice and be themselves and of course happy with what they do and definitely not frustrated.

Music theory and technique is easy but learning to do music and express yourself in a way that makes you happy is what most of the present day educational system lacks .

“Do you really want to play Bach as others tell you to do it?” Of course not, not even Bach would have wanted that.

Come and join me and let´s groove and do good music.

I believe in the old way of recording.

I have always believed that a recording should be done live and the more you play as you would play live, the better the recording will end up.

That means, all musicians in the same room , all playing at once, minimum or no headphones with  blending of signals into other mics.

Now all of this is just fine but the music has to be played in a natural manner where everyone can hear each other clearly and playing at a natural volume where a musician would have to learn  that  in order to play intense you do not have to play loud.

My last CD was recorded in this manner.

Spanish Breeze will move up to #24 on next week’s Jazz-Week World Chart.

And another observation:

The song I feel has the most expression because we recorded all in the same room is on on syndicated radio. I do not think it is smooth jazz but simple, expressive , beauty with all the imperfections that portray us as human beings.

Track #6 “Dulzura Con Rabia” will be added to the New Music Hour with Mariaa Lopez which airs on www.smoothjazznetwork.com <http://www.smoothjazznetwork.com/>

So I conclude  that human beings are really capable of feeling expressions of others.

Music recording should move away from present trends , take one step back in time, forget about packaging and focus only on the feeling.

Let us all trust our feelings , reflect them, play them, get them recorded  so that others can feel our guts.

But they all woke up the next day

But they all woke up the next day feeling very confused and empty.
One of the wise men said to his wife “Why am I feeling sad and empty if I have made love and given music to my friends”

His wife answered “My beloved husband, I give you clean shirts in the morning and you bring them back dirty in the afternoon. They have to be washed again so they can be worn again.

You need to feel empty to feel the need to replenish. Please hurry up and replenish your soul as our bed awaits your return”

The wise man understood very well, had a big breakfast and set off to play with his friends to replenish his soul so his wife could have another happy night. On his way back home , of course he was hurrying, he..

Wise man in a hurry to get home feeling the need to feel empty again

Wise man in a hurry to get home feeling the need to feel empty again.

Barcelona Music, Thomas Lorenzo, Alphonso Johnson, Walfredo Reyes

Thomas Lorenzo, Alphonso Johnson

Thomas Lorenzo, Alphonso Johnson

Barcelona Music will soon be releasing Thomas Lorenzo´s new CD titled Breezes. Recorded at Westlake Studios Los Angeles and engineered by grammy award nominee Bruce Sugar.

The cd includes 12 original compostions on electric and spanish guitar. Band members include Alphonso Johnson  on upright and electric bass (Weather Report), Walfredo Reyes Jr on Drums  ( Santana) and Dave Garfield on Keyboards and Piano( George Benson).

A mixture of cultures, a breath of fresh air , inspiring and soothing.

Thomas believes this Cd to be:   “The start of a new musical concept where space, air  groove  and emotions combine to soothe my soul which feels cold in a world of haste . anger and wars. I need musicians that can groove with imperfection. The music industry has created a concept of dance grooves that people strive for which  are not natural and do becoming very boring after a while. Alphonso, Walfred and Dave can groove and make you dance more and more and more as the song goes on. The create utter excitement.
